How to get rid of that nagging “Get Office” Ad in Windows 10

Thanks to the Microsoft Windows Store app in Windows 10, you can purchase all kinds of software with the click of a mouse. Unfortunately, you're likely to occasionally see ads like the one that's been popping up on my PC ever since I upgraded to Windows 10. "You don't have the latest version of Office," it seems to chide. “Try Office 365 for 1 month.”

There are two methods for getting rid of this particular ad. Both are equally effective. It's just that this particular ad is generated by a Get Office app that is installed on your PC. To stop the Get Office app from running, just uninstall it.

Uninstall the Get Office App

This permanently removes the app from your computer.

  1. Open the Start menu
  2. Locate the Get Office app under All apps
  3. Right-click on it and select Uninstall

Disable the Get Office Ads

Follow this procedure to merely “silence” the app and keep the ad from popping up.

  1. Open the Start menu
  2. Click Settings > System > Notifications & actions
  3. Locate Get Office under Show notifications from these apps and slide it to Off

By the way, one look at the list and you can see there are other notifications that you can disable as well. Have at it!
